Once Booker arrives in the city's Welcome Center, the game actually begins. Start looking for money, Voxophones, and other stuff immediately (even while unarmed). As you move towards the baptism, use the chance to grab stuff.
|In the church, head "left" of the first statue to the side chapel. When facing the chapel's altar, there is a voxophone to Booker's right, in a private votive station.
Once you've approached the crowd, you cannot go back, so be sure to take everything beforehand. There's not much else to look at here, except the ambiance.
After the baptism, Booker is "warped" to the city. Use the opportunity now to look around an explore the city before things get dicey and impede your freedom of exploration. If you are looking for items, it's best to take a note which direction the green arrow is pointing .... and then head to any direction except that one.
Past the initial square, there is a floating aerial parade. This event is used to mark the positions of a few more collectible items. Nothing noteworthy to do at this point (except look around), but do pick up all the spare cash you can find, because you will need it.
Booker will receive a telegram for an R. Lutece. In it, he suggests you find the statue of Colombia to locate Elizabeth. It won't matter much; this is still pretty much the tutorial for the game. Continue you collection and exploration.
The fairgrounds will offer Booker a chance of using Vigors (a gimp'ed version of Bucking Bronco), and two weapons - the Carbine and Shotgun. Complete all three carnival games three times (one for each prize) so you can line your pockets with money.
Booker will earn the Possession vigor by quaffing the drink offered by the woman near the ticket machine. Use the power on the machine, then grab the Salts (refill your mana) from the other machine. You will encounter the Luteces and be asked about "Heads or Tails"? There is no significant outcome from your choice.
Use direction marker to go explore areas pointing away from the statue; when you are satisfied, head for Raffle Square and end your basic tutorial.
